Care and maintenance

Grave care

Establish the exact grave first

Care can only be prepared properly when the grave can be located unambiguously on site. Have the section, row and grave number, directions and preferably a recent photograph ready.

Clarify before work begins

  • the right of use and consent of the responsible person,
  • grave type and permitted design,
  • requested one-off or recurring work,
  • disposal, access to water and working times.

Preparing a care visit in 2026

Bring tools and materials through a western entrance on Darmstädter Landstraße or the southern entrance on Sachsenhäuser Landwehrweg. The Hainer Weg access is closed to cemetery visitors until early 2027 and is not a suitable meeting point.

Because of water-pipe works, some taps are expected to have no grave-care water until September 2026. Ask shortly before the visit about supply in the relevant section; the two toilets shown on the map do not indicate the availability of water taps for grave care.

Local rules

City of Frankfurt Green Spaces Office, South cemetery district provides binding information about planting, memorials and commercial grave care. The service yard and ceremonial-hall area are being renewed in 2026. Because a new water line is being installed, some taps are expected to remain without irrigation water until September 2026.
